First Milan, then Rome for the opening of the second outlet of Carrefour Market ‘Gourmet’, the new supermarket format created by the French brand, which is open in the capital’s piazzale Morelli 52. Completely restructured, in an area of roughly 1,400 square metres, the sales outlet offers the same formula that made its debut last September in Piazza Gramsci in Milan: the outlet has been finished to a minimalist specification and the range of produce based on a selection of Italy’s finest in each of the food sectors in order to satisfy even the most passionate of the “food-lovers” and in this way uniting the ‘taste’ for practicality and convenience of the local supermarket. Fruits and vegetables from the season’s first harvest, products with zero food miles, exceptionally fresh fish served at the counter, important Italian specialties from the butcher, warm bread until sunset, more than 400 different cured meats and cheeses, a rich offering of wine and a special selection of off-the-shelf food products complete the range of both private-brand and Carrefour label products. “We have taken on an important challenge in which we strongly believe and that is differentiating the role of the supermarket”, says Stéphane Coum, director of Carrefour Italia supermarkets, “in order to satisfy our evolved, informed and knowledgeable customers, who love to have responses specific to their needs. In this sense, the strategy of the Carrefour supermarkets, which foresees different business models with a clear and precise position, is headed in this direction”. For Grégoire Kaufman, sales and marketing director for Carrefour Italia, “the careful research conducted on the producers which are closely linked to the areas of Rome and Lazio together with our policy regarding local produce is at the foundation of our business proposal for the new Market in piazzale Morelli. In this way we believe that we are promoting the enormous wealth of tradition and culture as a whole as well as the culture of food, of which Italy is the ultimate expression. Furthermore, with this opening we are sure to contribute to stimulating the economic development of small and medium food enterprises”.
