Two million and a half or hectoliters exported for a value of over $ 1.3 billion (2013 data Oiv – International organisation of vine and wine). These are the numbers of Italian wine in the United States, confirmed the world’s largest market in terms of wine consumption for Italy, despite the slight inflection of total imports (9,4% in quantity). Italy remains, then, the first supplier to the U.S. market. For this reason Montefalco Consortium, with a representation of winemakers from one of the most famous production areas of Umbria, has made a tour presenting their wines in Canada and the United States.

Special mention for the Montefalco Sagrantino docg and Montefalco Rosso doc, crops that over five hundred years characterize the production of wine of Montefalco and that they lived a record year in 2013.

 

“For Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG we recorded an increase of 1,500 hectoliters bottled compared to 2012, while for the Montefalco Rosso DOC, we even exceeded two thousand – comments Amilcare Pambuffetti, president of the Montefalco Consortium – With these numbers we can look with great confidence to the American market, sensitive to the quality and value of products made in Italy “.

 

The Umbrian Consortium tour began Tuesday, June 3rd in Toronto, Canada, and after stops in New York and San Francisco, ended Wednesday 11 in Los Angeles. Lots of journalists, wine writers, industry players and associations sommelier took part in the events.

“This is our third wine tour in the United States as the Consortium together with our cellars – said the president of the Consortium Pambuffetti – The affection and consent have encouraged us to continue with the development of products of Montefalco abroad. It is essential, both for Umbria and the area of ​​Montefalco, promote overseas excellence of our land and our products. ”

 

The cellars of the Consortium present in the tour were ten – Antonelli, Caprai, Colle Ciocco, Farm Colsanto, The Cimate, Perticaia, Romanelli, Scacciadiavoli, Bellafonte estate, Tenuta Castelbuono – which offered for tasting the typical varieties of their territory. In addition to the Montefalco Sagrantino docg, Montefalco Rosso doc and the Montefalco Rosso Riserva doc, Americans oenophiles have been able to enjoy the Montefalco Bianco doc, Grechetto, Trebbiano Spoletino and Sagrantino docg.
