Guido Berlucchi is the very first Franciacorta to win a place in the prestigious portfolio of Majestic Wine, the United Kingdom’s leading fine-wine retailer, which boasts a network of over 200 outlets throughout the country.
The Majestic tasting panel selected Berlucchi’s Cuvée Imperiale Brut, the iconic Franciacorta of the Borgonato-based sparkling wine house. It is the direct descendent of the Pinot di Franciacorta that in 1961 launched the “wine-making miracle” which created today’s Franciacorta.
Cuvée Imperiale Brut is made from 90% chardonnay and 10% pinot noir. The clusters are gently pressed in custom, inclined-plane presses, and the cuvée of base wines is enriched with reserve wines from previous vintages. A mixture of sugar and yeasts is added to the final cuvée for the secondary fermentation in the bottle, following which this Franciacorta rests on the fine lees a minimum of 18 months before being disgorged and released.
“Being selected by such a prestigious fine-wine chain as Majestic, which readers of Decanter have voted “Best Wine Merchant” fully five times, is a real privilege for Guido Berlucchi and for all of Franciacorta,” stated Paolo Ziliani, Berlucchi general manager for sales and marketing. “This partnership further strengthens our sales programme in a country that just last year witnessed a 27.7% increase in imports of Franciacorta. It signals consumers’ rapidly-growing interest in our growing area, as well as their appreciation of Franciacorta wines and the high quality levels they have achieved. We are quite confident that English consumers, well-known for their predilection for world-class sparkling wines, will fully appreciate the elegance and complexity of our Franciacorta”.
