Bolton Food, a prominent division of the global Bolton Group, has announced a major strategic operation in the seafood sector. Through a contract signed on October 20, 2026, the Italian giant has notified the Antitrust authorities of its acquisition of a 95% stake in Foodlab, a Parma-based company recognized as a leader in the processing of high-end seafood products.

A new chapter for premium seafood

This integration significantly bolsters Bolton’s market position. The group, which already commands major market shares in the tuna and canned goods segments with iconic brands such as Rio Mare, Simmenthal, and Wild Planet, is now set to diversify its offer. By entering the refrigerated seafood category, where Foodlab possesses deep-rooted expertise, the company aims to elevate the standard of premium offerings for both the retail and specialized distribution channels.

Excellence through artisanal heritage

Founded in 2000 by brothers Gianpaolo, Francesco, and Elisabetta Ghilardotti, Foodlab has built its reputation by successfully combining traditional, artisanal techniques with advanced industrial processes. With a 23,000-square-meter facility in Polesine Zibello (Parma), the firm processes approximately 3,000 tons of raw materials annually, supported by a dedicated team of 140 professionals. The success of the Emilian company is closely linked to its prestigious brands, including Fumara, Salmon & Co, and 24K Riserva Oro, which have become benchmarks for smoked salmon and premium fish products.

Growth prospects and future synergy

With a 2025 turnover approaching 52 million euros and a profit exceeding 3.4 million euros, Foodlab represents a high-value strategic asset. The incorporation into a global conglomerate with a 3.5-billion-euro turnover opens significant opportunities for international distribution, promising to drive further growth and innovation in the premium seafood landscape.
