The Grana Padano PDO production community is demonstrating its solidarity with the people of Venezuela, currently facing a severe humanitarian crisis following the devastating earthquake that struck the region on June 24. The board of directors of the Consortium for the Protection of Grana Padano cheese has unanimously approved a donation of €200,000 to support local populations, with a specific focus on providing essential care to children living in emergency shelters under dire conditions.

A commitment to humanitarian aid

The initiative, managed through the Fondazione Grana Padano, is also open to individual Consortium members who wish to contribute further. According to Renato Zaghini, President of the Consortium, the funds will be directed toward the most appropriate aid channels, following specific guidance requested from the Vatican. This collaborative effort reflects an ongoing dialogue established during preparations for the upcoming meeting with the Pope at the Rimini Meeting in late August.

Defining the ‘LOVE’ philosophy

The decision underscores the Consortium’s core values beyond the dairy industry. Stefano Berni, General Manager of the Consortium, emphasized that this move is a testament to their broader philosophy. “By supporting the most vulnerable, we demonstrate that ‘LOVE’ is not just a promotional concept for us, but a way of life, especially during particularly difficult situations,” Berni stated. This act of corporate responsibility highlights how the Italian food industry can mobilize its resources to provide vital support to those in need worldwide.
