The cycle of events for the presentation of the Enjoy European Quality Food (EEQF) programme throughout Europe continues. After Madrid and London, it made its debut in Berlin. The event was held at the Italian restaurant Alma Mia, which for the occasion created a menu with the project’s partner products.
Today’s round table was attended by Libero Stradiotti, President of the Consortium for the protection of Provolone Valpadana PDO, Marta Battistella, from Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG Consortium, Stefano Ricagno, vice president of the Asti DOCG protection Consortium, Alberto Liotti, from Tuscan Olive Oil producers association, Umberto Galli Zugaro from the European Sommelier School, and Michael Balbiano, chef and owner of the Alma Mia restaurant.
A SPECIAL MENU WITH AUTHENTIC ITALIAN GI PRODUCTS
The presentation of the Enjoy European Quality Food project was followed by a tasting of Italian products with Geographical Indication. Chef Michael Balbiano created a specific menu tailored to the tastes of local consumers. It included potato tart and pumpkin cream with Provolone Valpadana PDO, risotto with oysters and Asti Spumante DOCG, ravioli stuffed with mozzarella STG accompanied by spinach with anchovies and garlic cream. There was also a hand-cut beef tartare with Tuscan Extra Virgin Olive Oil PGI, stewed wild boar goulash with Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG, and finally a zabaglione dessert with Moscato Asti DOCG.
WHAT IS ENJOY EUROPEAN QUALITY FOOD
The Enjoy European Quality Food project has been launched in Milan on 3 October. It is a three-year project co-financed by the European Union, dedicated to the information and promotion of excellent food and wine products with GI certifications such as PDO (Protected Designation of Origin), DOCG (Controlled and Guaranteed Designation of Origin), PGI (Protected Geographical Indication), and TSG (Traditional Speciality Guaranteed).
The decision to involve four European countries in addition to Italy was made with the goal of bringing consumers, trade and opinion leaders closer to the world of Italian and European food and wines. During the next three years seminars, tastings, workshops and promotional initiatives will be organized, thanks to the support of local partners such as the Chambers of Commerce.
Six Italian products, among which we can find wines, cheeses and olive oil, are the absolute protagonists: Asti DOCG, Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG, Provolone Valpadana PDO, Tuscan Extra Virgin Olive Oil PGI, and Mozzarella STG.
