The United States has officially designated May 28 as National Pinsa Day, marking a significant milestone in the rapid growth of the Roman-style alternative to traditional pizza. Established by Di Marco, the inventor of modern pinsa, this annual observance highlights the category’s accelerating culinary momentum across both foodservice and retail channels.
A Roman Tradition Gains Global Traction
Born from the legacy of Corrado Di Marco, this authentic Italian specialty is crafted using a proprietary blend of flours, a high hydration level of approximately 80%, and a signature long fermentation process. This meticulous approach results in a base that is distinctively airy and crisp, rapidly becoming a staple for both professional chefs and home cooks seeking premium, digestible options.
Bringing Roman Heritage to America
To celebrate the inaugural event, the company is partnering with Eataly Flatiron to launch a dedicated pinsa kiosk near Madison Square Park, NYC, operating through June 30. The celebration extends beyond the kiosk with a series of activations featuring branded centurions and an ornate Roman lectica, designed to guide consumers toward discovering the product firsthand. Similar social media experiences are planned for Los Angeles and San Francisco.
“This is a historic day for pinsa,” said Corrado Di Marco, founder of Di Marco. “I am deeply proud to see something rooted in our Roman tradition embraced on this scale in the United States.” Alberto Di Marco, CEO of Di Marco, added that the day serves as an invitation for more consumers to explore a food product that is lighter, more versatile, and perfectly aligned with modern consumption habits.
