Vandemoortele, a family-owned food group and a leading player in Europe with a significant footprint in Italy has acquired the Italian bakery company Lizzi, a producer and distributor of frozen baked goods. This acquisition—following the purchase of Dolciaria Acquaviva in June 2024—underscores Vandemoortele’s commitment to investing in the Italian frozen baked goods market and accelerates its growth trajectory.
Lizzi boasts a robust market presence, supported by a diverse portfolio of recognizable brands and a reputation for quality products. The company has achieved notable successes in product innovation across breakfast items, sweet and savory pastries, bread, pizza, and focaccia. Its product lineup includes Lizzi’s pastry specialties, naturally leavened bread and focaccia from Forno della Rotonda, and natural bread and Piedmontese specialties from Spar.
With annual revenue exceeding €70 million, Lizzi employs over 240 people and operates four production facilities in Northern Italy—located in Assago, Milan, Caronno Pertusella, Varese, Sommariva and Monticello, Cuneo. The company distributes its products through the Horeca channel and large-scale distribution.
“We are delighted to welcome Lizzi into the Vandemoortele family,” said Yvon Guerin, CEO of Vandemoortele. “This strategic acquisition, alongside Dolciaria Acquaviva, further strengthens our group’s presence in the Italian market, aligning with our vision to deliver exceptional products and experiences to our customers.”
Piergiorgio Burei, CEO of Vandemoortele in Italy, remarked, “This operation marks a significant milestone in our company’s growth and transformation journey. Lizzi will infuse our group with a passion for quality and innovation, enabling us to offer our customers compelling growth opportunities.”
The terms of the transaction have not been disclosed, but it is expected to close in the coming weeks.
