At the latest SIAL trade show in Paris, Italy reinforced its position as a global leader in the dairy sector, with mozzarella continuing to dominate Italian food exports. From January to July 2024, Italian cheese exports hit a new high of 383,509 tons, an 11.1% increase over the same period in 2023. Among them, mozzarella led the charge with 92,393 tons, reflecting a 7.1% rise.
France remains the largest importer of Italian mozzarella, with 29,791 tons shipped across the border in the first seven months of the year, up 2.47% compared to 2023.
Within the EU, mozzarella holds its place as the top exported cheese. Beyond neighboring markets such as the UK and Switzerland, significant volumes are also headed for Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
