Today in Tokyo, the eagerly awaited awards ceremony for the Japan Olive Oil Prize (JOOP) and the JOOP Design Award 2024 occurred. This event, held at the Tokyo Tower, celebrates excellence and innovation in the extra virgin olive oil industry, honoring the top producers and designers globally. This year’s competition saw 511 entries from 27 countries.
The JOOP aims to promote high-quality extra virgin olive oils and educate Japanese consumers on identifying and selecting premium products. Through masterclasses, seminars, and promotional events, JOOP supports extra virgin olive oil producers and enhances their presence in the Japanese market.
The JOOP honors the finest extra virgin olive oils, chosen by a panel of 11 international experts. This year’s judges include Antonio G. Lauro, Konstantinos Liris, Miciyo Yamada, Fernando Martinez Roman, Barbara Alfei, M. Angeles Calvo Fandos, Birsen Can, Marcelo Scofano, Na Xie, Hiromi Nakamura, and Mariko Shimada.
Since 2020, the JOOP Design Award has recognized not just the quality of the oil but also its packaging aesthetics, celebrating the design of logos, bottles, and packaging. The discerning Japanese market presents a unique challenge and opportunity for designers and producers worldwide.
The JOOP Design Award 2024 jury comprises distinguished design experts, including Debbie Millman from the United States, Motoko Ishii from Japan, Oliviero Toscani from Italy, and Shahira Fahmy from Egypt.
