Barilla acquires Pasta Zara’s factory in Trieste

The Pasta Zara’s plant in Trieste has been officially sold to the Barilla Group, which thus reaches 15 production sites in Italy (29 worldwide). The handover of the Muggia production pole seals the agreement between the two Italian pasta companies, thanks to which Pasta Zara achieved its rescue after the financial crisis that had forced it to seek an arrangement with creditors.

FIVE YEARS OF SUPPLIES FROM BARILLA TO ZARA

The agreement is not limited to the transfer of ownership of one of the largest pasta production plants in Italy, and consequently in the world: with 260 thousand tons of estimated potential production and 150 employees. For five years Pasta Zara has been committed to acquiring a minimum quantity of pasta from Barilla that will serve to keep production at a good level. At the same time Pasta Zara will be able to supply its customers. These are mainly large distribution chains to which the company supplies private label products.
