Italy finds fresh energy at Sial Montreal

Italian food makers joined Sial in Montreal (May 2-4), the largest and most important food show in Canada, amid encouraging signs of exports activity following the key CETA trade deal with the European Union. A group of 35 companies exhibited in the Italian pavilion covering an area of 400 square meters organized by Universal Marketing, Sial Group’s exclusive agent for Italy. The Italian Trade Agency (ICE) in Canada, within the South Export Plan II and in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture office in Rome, organized a group of 19 companies from the southern regions of Italy.

Inside Sial Canada exhibition

With more than 850 exhibitors from 50 countries that welcome more than 15,000 buyers from Canada, the United States and 60 other countries, Sial Canada is the most important food show in the country and the main gateway to the North American market. In the year dedicated to Italian food in the world and a few months since the CETA agreement coming into force, which awards Italian exports toCanada with a +14% in the first 5 months of application compared to the +1% registered from the overall food import, with this participation in Sial, said ICE Canada director Matteo Picariello, we assert our objective of contributing, in an organized and systematic way, to the internationalization of companies with great potential that need a contribution in terms of promotion and visibility.

Italian food in Canada

Italy is the top European food product supplier in Canada and the positive trend is constantly growing. In order to profit from these opportunities, the ICE Agency will display at SIAL 2018 the excellent production from our southern regions, presenting a range of products representative of the best Italian quality and tradition: wine, pasta, oil, coffee, pizza, cheeses and must-have desserts, Picariello said. Today more than ever, Canada represents a great opportunity for Italian companies, said Donato Cinelli, President of Universal Marketing. SIAL Canada 2018, held this year in Montreal, will see Italian companies even more determined to establish themselves in the North American market. Italy, concludes Cinelli, is the leading figure of the food and wine market in North America and this is illustrated by the fact that, in the 15 years of our organization, requests by Italian companies to participate in our groups have continued to increase.
