Unibon acquires 100% of GSI

Senfter Holding and Unibon signed an agreement for the sale of Is Holding shares – which controls 100% of Grandi Salumifici Italiani. In this way, Unibon will hold 100% of GSI. The acquisition is subject to the approval of the Competition Authority and the finalization is expected to be completed within the first two months of 2018.

A leader in the Italian cold cuts market

Grandi Salumifici Italiani, with a vast portfolio of brands including the well known Casa Modena, is the result of a process of industrial and corporate aggregation that began in 2000 with the creation of a commercial partnership between Unibon and Senfter. GSI Group is active in the production and trade of deli meats and processed pork products which are typical of the Italian food tradition. With a consolidated turnover of over 650 million euros, it is a leader in the Italian market as well as one of the largest international operators. GSI has over 1,500 employees working in 13 production plants in Emilia Romagna, Tuscany and Trentino Alto-Adige.

Future goals

Thanks to this acquisition, Unibon plans to use GSI as a platform for other large aggregations in the Italian food sector. Senfter Holding is assisted by Banca IMI and Rabobank as financial advisors and by Chiomenti and Brandstaetter as legal advisors, while Unibon is assisted by UniCredit and by Studio Rocchi. Helmuth Senfter, vice president of Senfter Holding says: Thus ends a highly successful experience that led to the creation of the Italian leader in the cold cuts sector. Senfter has contributed over the years with passion and energy to the making of this project, providing the business and the historic family brand and subsequently supporting the growth of the GSI Group. We will continue to invest in Italy and abroad in the food sector, supporting the growth of high-potential businesses, and we will maintain our strategic investment in the cured meat industry in China. Milo Pacchioni, president of Unibon and Is Holding, and Giuliano Carletti, vice president of Unibon and Grandi Salumifici Italiani, state: After almost twenty years of fruitful collaboration with the Senfter family, Unibon wants to support GSI as a major national food player, aiming at expanding into domestic and foreign markets, tradition, and innovative sectors. We are sure that all the human resources involved will be ready to support and win the new challenges.
