Made in Itay food is broadly appreciated in Australia for its high quality. “The presence of Italian food companies in Australia is very strong”, Mrs Antonietta Baccanari, the Italian Trade Commissioner in Sydney, explains to Italianfood.net Magazine. For both historical and commercial reasons, the ones selling traditional products such as “pasta, sauces, olive oil, cheeses and coffee are stronger than all the others”.

EXPORTS POST STRONG GROWTH IN 2015 – The Australian imports* of food and beverage products in 2015 reached the value of 10,3 billion euros and have grown +12% compared to 2014. In 2015 the main supplier countries have been New Zealand, United States and China. In 2015 Italy is stable at the 6th place as main supplier country for Australia and is the first European country with a total value of the food imports of 473,5 mln Euros with a growth of 7,9% compared to 2014. Italian food and beverage imports represent the 4,6% of the total Australian food and beverage imports from the world (in 2014 they were the 4,8%).

THE MOST IMPORTED PRODUCTS FROM ITALY – The main food and beverage products imported by Australia from Italy are beverages including wines, spirits and vinegars, (92,95 mln euros, +5,4% compared to the year before), preparations of vegetables, fruit, nuts (92,6 mln euros, +6,2% compared to the year before), preparations of cereals, flour, starch or milk (64,2 mln euros, + 13,2% compared to the year before) and coffee and tea (44,7 mln euros, -4,4% compared to the year before).
