Soon after Amazon introduced its Pantry grocery home delivery service, Lidl announced its “Vorratsbox programme”. As with Amazon, Lidl customers can hand in a shopping list filled with groceries and everyday items on a website. Two to three days later, the products will be delivered in a “supply box” to the customer’s doorstep. Customers can also choose to pick it up themselves at a collection point.
Lidl also is said to be building out its online operation in the Netherlands. After a test with home delivery of wine, the retailer is now expected to offer non-food items online. Grocery e-commerce is growing in the Netherlands. Albert Heijn has established a network of click & collect facilities across the country and Jumbo recently announced it was starting into home delivery.
