Italian agri-food powerhouse GranTerre Group has significantly bolstered its international footprint with the strategic acquisition of the UK’s Pimpernel Wharf. The transaction, finalized by the group’s subsidiary Caseifici GranTerre through a 100% share purchase, marks the successful completion of the company’s first phase of its ambitious global expansion plan.
Strengthening the UK market presence
Headquartered in Reigate, Surrey, Pimpernel Wharf has been a key player in the British food sector since the 1960s. Known for its deep expertise in the distribution of premium dairy and continental charcuterie, the company generates approximately 16.9 million pounds in annual revenue. With this move, GranTerre secures a vital commercial platform to directly service the UK retail, industrial, and foodservice channels. Notably, PDO staples such as Parmigiano Reggiano and Grana Padano account for 22% of the distributor’s turnover, reflecting the growing demand for authentic Italian excellence abroad.
A global strategy for Italian excellence
The acquisition rounds out GranTerre’s direct presence in all major export markets identified in its strategic roadmap: the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, and Switzerland. This physical presence allows the group to move closer to international buyers, gaining granular insight into local consumer preferences while streamlining the supply chain for its extensive portfolio, including Prosciutto di Parma PDO and Mortadella Bologna PGI.
“Completing this acquisition is a milestone in our international growth journey,” noted Maurizio Moscatelli, CEO of GranTerre. “By establishing a direct presence in key markets, we can foster stronger relationships with our partners and better showcase the quality of our products.”
