Buffalo mozzarella and Gragnano pasta together in a €1 billion agreement

The two main Consortia for the protection of PDO and PGI food products in central and southern Italy have signed a collaboration agreement that will see them create a unique body for the protection and enhancement of Mozzarella di Bufala Campana PDO (buffalo mozzarella) and Pasta di Gragnano PGI.

By virtue of this agreement, the two Consortia will now officially collaborate to carry out the activities of supervision, protection, promotion and enhancement of their products and to create synergies with regard to the main institutional activities for which they are responsible.

A ONE BILLION WORTH SYNERGY

This synergy alone is worth about one billion euros in turnover. This is the value of the companies registered in the control system and associated to both Consortia. In fact, they represent two of the best known and appreciated PDO and PGI products of Made in Italy on the tables all over the world. A driving force for the agri-food sector and for tourism as well.

FOREIGN MARKETS AND PROMOTION ACTIVITIES FOR GRAGNANO PASTA AND BUFFALO MOZZARELLA

Both Consortia’s associated companies can boast significant penetration quotas in foreign markets: 38% of production for Gragnano pasta in 2019 and 33% for Mozzarella di Bufala in 2018.

The two Consortia are already cooperating also for promotion and communication activities. On the research and development front, joint training activities are planned for all stakeholders in the respective production chains, as well as for young people and students.
