Toronto will be the second North American city, after New York City, to have two Eataly locations. The Italian marketplace announced on its Eataly Toronto Instagram page on October 3 that the second location will be at the CF Sherway Gardens shopping center. “That’s right, in less than one month, our Yorkville spot has a new sibling, and together they’ll be serving up all the Italian goodness you’ve come to love, just in different parts of the city,” the company wrote on Instagram.
CF Sherway Gardens, in a statement, said, “This fall, Italy is closer than you think. A new location of global Italian marketplace Eataly will open at CF Sherway Gardens just in time for the holidays. Spanning 25,000 square feet with multiple counters, restaurants and a grocery market, the newest Eataly – only the second location in Canada – brings an authentic experience that encompasses the passion, culture and excellence of Italian cuisine.”
The first Canadian location in Toronto opened in 2019 at 55 Bloor Street W. It spans over 50,000 square feet and has nine restaurants.
A second location was rumored just as the first market opened in Toronto. In 2019, Eataly’s executive president Andrea Guerra, was interviewed by the Financial Post about growth possibilities in Canada. “First of all, Toronto probably — being the largest city — could host a second Eataly. And then, between Montreal and Vancouver, there could be another Eataly. I really think Canada can be a big place for us. The basic culture of Canada is much closer to Europe than to the United States,” said Guerra.
Italianfood.net magazine reported in September that Eataly announced Tommaso Brusò as the new CEO of North America.
