“Each year we receive hundreds of requests from residents for a store in Connecticut, so we’re excited to bring Wegmans to Norwalk and to get to know our new neighbors,” said Colleen Wegman, president and CEO of Wegmans Food Markets in a statement. An opening date has not yet been determined as the company is still working out construction details with the municipal. The press statement did offer clues as to how big the store will be once completed announcing it will be approximately 95,000 square feet.
UPCOMING STORE OPENINGS
The grand opening for the Alexandria, Virginia location will take place on May 11. Later this year, Wegmans will open a new store in Washington, DC. An opening date has not yet been announced. However, the store will include a Market Café, coffee shop, and the family-friendly, casual restaurant The Burger Bar.
Speaking of openings, in Rochester, New York, Wegmans reopened its authentic Italian restaurant, Amore, in December 2021. “We spent the last year and a half experimenting with new recipes and reinventing the menu to give our customers a new taste of Amore,” said Wegmans Restaurant Operations Manager Mauricio Valdivia in a statement. Chef Pasquale Sorrentino, a native from Torre del Greco, Napoli, leads the restaurant. The menu includes signature and contemporary Italian entrees.
ITALIAN FOOD LINE PRIVATE LABEL
Wegmans collaborates with Italian pasta supplier Bertagni to develop a line of pastas. On the company’s website, Wegmans describes the quality as, “The artisan pastas they craft for us have generous fillings of authentic Italian ingredients wrapped in a very delicate pasta”.
