Italian food products will be added to Wakefern’s massive rollout of its new private label strategy aimed at offering consumers the best quality at the best price, said William Magistrelli, director of innovation for own brands at the New Jersey-based retail group.

In an interview with Italianfood.net on the sidelines of the PLMA show in Chicago, Magistrelli said pasta will be the first Italian product category to be converted into Wakefern’s new Bowl and Basket label.

Specialty products from Italy and other countries will then be added to the premium tier of Bowl and Basket dedicated to the most innovative quality items, Magistrelli said.
