Italy was the country of honor at SIAL Canada 2019, North America’s largest food innovation trade show. “SIAL Canada 2019 sees Italy as the main protagonist among the 50 participating countries,” ICE Canada director Matteo Picariello said. A total of 38 companies from central and southern Italy presented their quality and innovative products to Canadian buyers at the show, which took place in Toronto from April 30 until May 2.

“Italy is the big protagonist of the food and wine market in North America,” said Donato Cinelli, president of Universal Marketing, the exclusive agent for Italy of SIAL Group. Italy is the fourth-largest food exporter globally behind the United States, Mexico and China, and is the number one in the EU. In the last 10 years, imports of Italian food in Canada has recorded a growth rate of 213%, according to ICE Canada estimates. The 2020 edition of the trade show will take place in Montreal.
