Saclà to sell Italian tomatoes to the Chinese. The leader in canned vegetables started the production of special meat sauce made with 100% Italian tomatoes in China a few months ago. The aim is to export the traditional Italian recipes. Yes, because the new range is made in China – in the Shanghai factory – but the technology and know-how are Italian. These sauces are not an imposition of Italian food but are made with great attention to the tastes of the Asian consumer. Local raw materials are also used, but with a ‘special guest’: the 100% Italian tomatoes, with their high quality and health assurance, in a glass jar with a specific logo.
The new line includes three kinds of sauces: Bolognese sauce, Spicy sauce and Sauce with meatballs and Saclà also recommends some usage suggestions in the kitchen, a mix between Italy and China by Saclà, as in noodles with sauce, rice with sauce and meatballs and ravioli with shrimp in a spicy sauce.
“We are proud to bring a very Italian product such as tomatoes to China and see that this is appreciated by the consumer,” said Chiara Ercole, vice president of Saclà. “Moreover, in recent years in China, the Chinese food industry is gradually changing thanks to the increased purchasing power and changing lifestyles of consumers. The change is particularly favoured by the arrival of new distribution formula such as supermarkets, hypermarkets, convenience stores and the development of international restaurants that has put the Chinese consumers in contact with Western dietary patterns.”
