Lidl asks suppliers about US move
Lidl appears to be moving up its timetable for coming to the US and is polling its suppliers in order to discover who can also deliver to the country. Lebensmittel Zeitung writes, “Although the official entry date is still set for 2018, the signs are increasing that the German discounter could cross the Big Pond as early as next year.”

Around 200 executives will soon undergo training at the head office in preparation for entry. A Lidl services company has already opened its headquarters in Arlington, Virginia near Washington DC. Its first task is to find suitable sites and to push expansion. Sources close to the privately-held company understand that it intends to kick off with at least 100 stores.
